Surprise Gift!
If you’re lucky enough to live in Corca Dhuibhne you should have received something from us in the post recently. We sent out flyers reminding you (and anybody visiting) where we are and what we are doing on and for Dingle Peninsula. Feel free to keep this postcard on display so you know where to find us again!
The card is completely compostable and an alternative to keeping it on display is to plant it. Yes, these cards can turn into a plant with a little TLC! (If you hold it to the light, you might see that there are seeds inside). There’s a tutorial video on our Instagram or follow these steps to grow your own Dingle Hub plant:
- Soak the card in a tray of water for 24 hours (to give seeds a better chance of growing)
- Plant the card in soil (in a pot or in your garden)
- Water regularly and watch for growth
You should soon have a lavender plant.
Optional: Take a photo and share on social media, with hashtag #dinglehublavender and tag us with your plant’s progress!

Seán Kelly ag tabhairt cuairt ar Chorca Dhuibhne
Thug Seán Kelly BPE cuairt ar an Daingean ar 22ú Lúnasa, áit ar bhuail sé le comhghleacaithe de chuid Líonraí BSL, ag labhairt faoina mbaint leis an tionscnamh Corca Dhuibhne/Dingle Peninsula 2030. Thug Bainisteoir Ginearálta an Mhoil, Deirdre de Bhailís, cur síos don mBall de Pharlaimint na hEorpa ar an tionscnamh seo agus gach rud eile lena bhfuil an Mol bainteach, i gCorca Dhuibhne agus ag an leibhéal náisiúnta araon.
Chuala an tUasal Kelly conas mar atá tionscadail thrialacha mar chuid de Chorca Dhuibhne 2030 tar éis dul ar aghaidh chun tionchar a imirt ar pholasaí agus dea-chleachtas. In Eanáir 2021 sheol Líonraí BSL triail bhliana ar fheithiclí leictreacha (FL). B’é cuspóir an triail phobail seo ná tuiscint a fháil ar thionchar luchtú feithiclí leictreacha ar an líonra leictreach. Cuireadh 17 carr ar fáil do bhaill den phobal a thiomáin breis agus 350,000 km iontu thar thréimhse bliana.
Fuair an triail amach go bhfuil Flanna oiriúnach i gcomhair formhór de na turasanna á bhíonn á dtógáint ag daoine ina gcónaí i bpobail tuaithe ar nós Chorca Duibhne. Ar thabhairt a gcarr thar n-ais ag deireadh na bliana, dúirt timpeall leath de na rannpháirtithe go rabhadar tar éis nó chun FL a cheannach, nó féachaint ar na féidearthachtaí timpeall ar a gcarr peitril nó díosail a mhalartú.
Bhí an feirmeoir ó Lios Póil, Dinny Galvin, ar dhuine de na hambasadóirí do Thionscal Chorca Dhuibhne, agus déanadh tigh feirme a theaghlaigh a uasghrádú le teicneolaíochtaí fuinnimh ghlain agus inathnuaite, m.sh. Córas Painéal Gréine, Pumpaí Teasa Aer go hUisce, agus luchtairí FL Cliste. Chuir Dinny fáilte roimh an BPE do Dheisceart Éireann agus foireann Líonraí BSL ar a fheirm chun an teicneolaíocht seo a fheiscint. Anuas air sin, thaispeáin sé córas malartaithe teasa dóibh a dhein sé infheistiú ann dá pharlús déiríochta, córas a chabhraíonn go suntasach maidir le héifeachtacht fuinnimh.

Seán Kelly visits Corca Dhuibhne
MEP Seán Kelly visited Dingle on August 22nd where he was meeting colleagues from ESB Networks, talking about their involvement in the Corca Dhuibhne/Dingle Peninsula 2030 initiative. Dingle Hub Manager Deirdre de Bhailís also gave the Member of the European Parliament an overview of this initiative and all else that Dingle Hub is involved in, both in Corca Dhuibhne and on a national level.
Mr Kelly heard how trial projects within Corca Dhuibhne 2030 have gone on to inform policy and best practice. ESB Networks ran a number of trials under the name ‘Dingle Project’ to understand the impact of clean energy enabling technologies like solar PV panels, Heat Pumps, Batteries (to store excess solar energy) and EV charging on the electricity network,
The objective of ESB Networks electric vehicle (EV) trial was to understand the impact of electric vehicle charging on the electricity network. 17 cars were provided to members of the public who drove over 350,000km over the year. The results show that EVs really are suitable for most journeys undertaken by people living in rural communities like ours. Around half of the participants had or said they would purchase an EV or else explore options to replace their petrol or diesel car.
One of the ambassadors for this Dingle Project was Lispole farmer Dinny Galvin, who had his family farmhouse upgraded with renewable and clean energy technologies e.g Solar PV System, Air Source Heat Pumps and a Smart EV charger for his electric vehicle. Dinny welcomed the Ireland South MEP onto his farm to see this technology. He also showed them a heat exchange system that he invested in for his dairy parlour which helps significantly with energy efficiency.
“I’ve been blown away by the amount of positive activity at Dingle Hub! Particularly the engagement with the local community, the positive spin-offs for people in these communities and above all the contributions towards emissions reduction and our national climate targets.”
Seán Kelly, MEP for Ireland South
