Ann Ní Chíobháin and Martin Bealin of the Corca Dhuibhne Tourism and Hospitality Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) spoke about the initiative on Radio Kerry’s Ours to Protect program on July 4, 2023.
Launched in March of this year, the SEC has recruited over 120 local businesses to take part in a project to reduce emissions and become a sustainable tourist destination.
The project is currently gathering information, and has sent surveys to participating businesses. Project analysts will use the information to create an energy master plan that will give specific recommendations on how businesses on the Dingle Peninsula can save energy.
Along with current energy use, the project will also look at building specifics, such as building materials and BER ratings. It will also collect data on food waste, to look at opportunities for improvement in food waste management.
