dingle-2030-timeline

Is tionscnamh ilphairtí uaillmhianach spreagúil é Corca Dhuibhne 2030 atá lonnaithe ar leithinis Chorca Dhuibhne i gContae Chiarraí. Bunaithe  go luath sa bhliain 2018, páirteach ann tá Mol Cruthaitheachta agus Nuálaíochta Dhaingean Uí Chúis, Líonraí BSLIonad MaREI, agus Forbairt Chiarraí Thuaidh, Thoir agus Thiar (FCTTT).

Tá an grúpa ilghnéitheach seo ag obair go gníomhach le scoileanna, gnónna agus feirmeoirí sa phobal áitiúil chun fiosrú agus éascú a dhéanamh ar, agus chun tacú leis, na hathraithe níos leithne atá ag teastáil chun aistriú go sochaí ísealcharbóin. Laistigh de seo, tá an Mol ag obair chun deiseanna fostaíochta a aithint agus chun todhchaí eacnamúil inmharthana a chruthú do mhuintir na leithinse.

Le tacaíocht agus cúnamh a chomhpháirtithe i gCorca Dhuibhne 2030, tá an Mol tar éis Máistirphlean Fuinnimh don gceantar a chríochnú, agus tá sé ag obair i láthair na huaire ar:

  •          staidéar féidearthachta do dhíleaiteoir anaeróbach
  •          tionscnamh iompair inmharthana i dteannta Local Link Kerry
  •          I gcomhpháirt le Bord Oiliúna agus Traenála Chiarraí, deichniúr meantóirí fuinnimhe áitiúla a thraenáil chun tacú le daoine agus iad ag déanamh iarfheistiú ar a gcuid tithe agus ag iarraidh fuinneamh a úsáid ar bhonn éifeachtúil.

Tá sé i gceist ag an Mol comharchumann fuinnimh áitiúil a bhunú le tacaíocht ó thionscnamh SKIN de chuid an Aontas Eorpaigh agus ó lucht taighde Teagasc, chun cur ar chumas an phobail infheistíocht a dhéanamh i nginiúnt fuinnimh inmharthana amach anseo.

Roghnaigh Líonraí BSL Corca Dhuibhne mar ionad do thionscadal píolótach gurb fhiú €5 milliúin thar 3 bliana, a sheoladh in Aibreán 2018. Cífidh an tionscadal seo úsáid réimse teicneolaíochtaí nua chun cabhrú le forbairt líonra aibhléise ísealcharbóin don todhchaí a bheidh cliste agus láidir.

Mar chuid den tionscadal seo tá sé beartaithe ag Líonraí BSL:

  •           Iarfheistiú iomlán a dhéanamh ar réadmhaoin thriúr dá ambasadóirí ar an leithinis. Anuas ar sin, cuirfidh siad an trealamh seo a leanas ar fáil dóibhsean agus do dhá theaghlach eile: painéil gréine fótavoltacha, córais bainistithe cadhnraí, pumpaí teasa aer-fhoinse, gléasanna trádála idir piaraí, agus luchtairí d’fheithiclí leictreacha.
  •          Triailiú a dhéanamh ar theicneolaíocht cadhnra agus painéil gréine fótavoltacha i dtithe eile sa cheantar.
  •          Triail bhliana a dhéanamh ar chairteacha leictreacha le 17 duine áitiúil.

Bíonn foireann Corca Dhuibhne 2030 i láthir ag mórán de na féilte a bhíonn ar siúl gach bliain ar an leithinis agus déanann siad teagmháil leis na meáin áitiúla. Tá obair idir lámha acu leis na meánscoileanna áitiúla (m.sh. ‘Climate Hack’) agus tá clár mór beartaithe acu do 2020 faoin mana  ‘an Saoránach Fuinnimh a Ghríosadh’.

Tá lucht taighde tras-disciplíneach ó MaREI ag tabhairt treoraíocht agus tacaíocht, ag fiosrú na cumarsáide idir grúpaí barr-anuas agus bonn-aníos de pháirtithe leasmhara, agus ag iarraidh slite chun fís timpeall ar chóras fuinnimh don todhchaí a chumadh ar bhonn comhoibritheach. Déanfar measúnú an tionscadail seo, agus na rudaí a d’fhoghlaimíodh uaidh, a thaifeadadh mar chás-staidéar agus roinnfear é ar na páirtithe leasmhara ábhartha le súil is go mbeidh sé áisiúil agus gníomhaíocht aeráide á pleanáil amach anseo. Anuas ar sin, cuirfear roinnt achoimrí gearra polasaí ar fáil ar mhaithe lucht déanta polasaithe, bunaithe ar an taithí faighte le linn tionscadail Corca Dhuibhne 2030.

Dingle 2030 is an ambitious and exciting multi-partner initiative based on the Dingle Peninsula, in Co. Kerry. Established in early 2018, it involves the Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub, ESB NetworksMaREI, the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine, and North East West Kerry Development (NEWKD). This diverse group is actively working with the local community schools, business and farming sector to explore, support and enable the broader societal changes required for the low carbon transition. Within this, the Dingle Hub is also working to identify employment opportunities and create a sustainable economic future for the Peninsula.

With the support and assistance of its Dingle 2030 partners, the Dingle Hub Sustainable Energy Community has completed an Energy Master Plan for the area and is currently working on:

  •           a feasibility study for an anaerobic digester

  •           a sustainable transport initiative with Local Link Kerry

  •            in partnership with Kerry Education and Training Board, the training of 10 local energy mentors to support people in retrofitting their homes and using energy efficiently

The Hub is also hoping to explore the establishment of a local energy Co-op, supported by the EU SKIN project and Teagasc researchers, to enable the community to invest in future renewable energy generation.

ESB Networks has chosen the Dingle Peninsula as the location for a highly innovative three-year project, which was launched in April 2018. The €5 million project involves the deployment of a range of new technologies to assist in the development of a smart, resilient, low-carbon electricity network of the future, and includes the following:

  •         The appointment of 5 ESB Networks Dingle Project Ambassadors, and the full retrofit of 2 buildings and 1 underway
  •          The installation of 30 Solar PVs on local homes, which have already generated in excess of 27.67 MWh or 27,667 kWh of energy
  •          The installation of 20 Battery Management Systems in local homes – 5 additional Battery Management systems to be installed in 2020
  •          A call for expressions of Interest for an Electric Vehicle trial in 2020 involving 15 vehicles
  •          The testing of Smart Networks devices which will help increase reliability and security of supply.

The findings from this project will allow ESB Networks to gain insights which will help create and maintain a network to facilitate the Dingle transition to a low carbon society.

The Dingle 2030 team has an active presence at the many festivals that take place annually across the Peninsula, engaging with education and outreach activities, and with the local media. Work is on-going with the local secondary schools (including  Climate Hack events) and a major programme supported by Science Foundation Ireland is planned for 2020 on ‘Activating the Energy Citizen’.

A group of researchers from MaREI is offering guidance and support, exploring the interaction between top-down and bottom-up stakeholder groups, and identifying ways of collaboratively forming visions for the future energy system. The evaluation of the project, and lessons learned, will be documented in a case study and shared with relevant stakeholders with a view to informing future climate action.  In addition, some concise Policy Briefs, with recommendations based on the experience of the Dingle 2030 project, will be provided for policy makers.
